Welcome to the Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club
(Brentwood Reserve, Maylands Crescent, GLEN WAVERLEY)
Congratulations to Thomas Gladman, Will Edwards and Matthew Acciarito !

Recently, the EFL held its 2008 Junior Presentation Night. The Rovers had three boys receive awards:

- Thomas Gladman won Best and Fairest in the Under 13Bs

- Will Edwards was Runner-Up in the Under15Bs

- Matthew Acciarito was Runner-Up in the Under 14cs.

Congratulations to these three boys in particular, but also to the other boys who polled well in their age groups. The results and vote counts for all age groups are on the EFL website (www.efl.org.au)

Our victorious Under 15 Premiership team was also presented with its Premiership flag - the flag is currently being worshipped daily (alongside the Premiership Cup) at Mark's premiership temple (mantlepiece) at home !

About the club

The Rovers is a family oriented junior football club established in 1970 and fielding teams in every age group from Under 9 through to Under 16 in the Eastern Football League (EFL).

Our club has a long and successful history in the WJFA, having won more Premierships and Best & Fairest Awards than any other club. We are very proud of the fact that we have also won the prestigious WJFA Presidents Trophy for the best organized club in the association more often than any other club. The club moved to the EFL in 2001 (Under 15 and Under 16 teams) and all other teams in 2002. Our Under 16 team won the club's first EFL premiership in 2003 and the club itself won the Gordon Parker Award for the best conducted club in the EFL in 2003 and the Monash Sporting Club of the Year Award in 2006.

The Rovers believe that the individual player should be encouraged, and this fosters self-confidence and self-esteem. Individuals make up the team where mutual respect, trust and working towards common goals are important life skills our players develop.

Our club is committed to using our website as a valuable way to communicate to our members. Ground locations, coaches and team managers' phone numbers, match reports and scores are all available for our teams. All club policies, club objectives and descriptions of office bearers' positions are also available in our site (see under "Our Club"). We are also pleased to be part of the EFL web site, as this site has information about draws, results and other important news.

Our generous sponsors are listed on our sites - we are very proud to have such a high calibre group of businesses behind our club. Please support them.

The Rovers conducts one of Victoria's Top 40 Auskick clinics and further information about the clinics (conducted on Saturday mornings) can be found at "Auskick Clinics" on our site. Players can learn great footy skills at Auskick and are encouraged to continue with Auskick, even when they start to play club football with the Rovers.

Parents of prospective Rovers players can obtain information about the club by contacting our Registrar Graeme Meredith (see "Committee" on this site for contact details) or email your enquiry to secretary@glenrovers.org.au .

The club always welcomes new players at all age levels (unless a team list is full).

Mulgrave Football Club Alliance

The club has reached an informal agreement with Mulgrave FC around a number of activities designed to develop an alliance between our two clubs. This is a cornerstone of Rovers development pathway strategy, in forming a relationship link with a local senior club. The clubs will remain totally independent of each other. The purpose of the activities are to develop a familiarisation of Mulgrave for Rovers players, so that should they seek to continue the sport post junior football, they have already had a taste of the mechanics and culture of a senior club, and may choose Mulgrave as their preferred option. For obvious reasons, most activities are directed towards our U16 group. Many of last years Rovers U16 team have been able to continue playing together at Mulgrave. Mulgrave is an EFL member and fields 3 teams Colts (U18), Seniors & Reserves.

The activities are:

1 Rovers Auskick, U9 and U10 groups play a series of grid games at half time of a Mulgrave Seniors home game. (Mulgrave supply hot dogs for all players)

2 Rovers U16 have a training session with Mulgrave Colts and support the Colts at a home game, including all coachs addresses. As this is a morning game, Mulgrave supply breakfast to all our U16s.

3 Rovers U16 have a training session with Mulgrave Seniors and support the Seniors at a home game, including all coachs addresses. Pizza supplied to U16 boys after both Seniors and Colts training sessions.

4 Selected Mulgrave Seniors attend Rovers U16 training session to provide individualised coaching

5 Both clubs support each other's respective finals campaigns (an informal arrangement should it occur)

6 Mulgrave will supply an award for excellence to a Rovers U16 player (including 2009 Mulgrave registration); & Rovers supply a similar award to an ex-Rovers player currently playing for Mulgrave

7 Each club takes a table at our respective Dinner Dances

8 Rovers assist Mulgrave in tender process for Mulgrave to host (some) 2008 Junior Finals (Rovers ground is inadequate for hosting Finals)

9 Should Mulgrave Colts qualify for Finals, they will/may train on Rovers ground during their Finals campaign due to overcrowding at their ground which is currently the case.

10 Family Day held at Mulgrave Clubrooms.

It is anticipated that similar arrangements will continue into the future, although that is dependent on the respective Committees of the time. To date, the activities that have occurred have worked well, without being at all intrusive on those participating..

For all those parents and players new to the club, here is our club song:

We are the Mighty Rovers,
And we always play to win.
We will give our all for Waverley,
As we fight through thick and thin.
We will win our club the premiership,
For we are the greatest team.
Yes it's black and white forever,
For the Rovers are supreme.
